Therese D. (Obomsawin) Ociesa, 86, of New Bedford died January 30, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
She was the wife of Stanley R. Ociesa with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Hector and Evangeline (Duquette) Obomsawin, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Terry was an active communicant and volunteer of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and the former Sacred Heart Parish.
She nurtured her family and maintained her beautiful home with warmth and love.
Terry was a woman of many talents including seamstress, quilter, artist, restoring old furniture and always strived for perfection. She was proud of her Abenaki ancestry and enjoyed visits to Odanak Reservation in Canada.
Survivors include her husband; her 6 children, Andrea Ociesa Sears and her husband Ramon of Ashfield, MA, Stanley C. Ociesa of New Bedford, Dana Ociesa and his wife Leslie of Boca Raton, FL, Jon Ociesa and Eric Ociesa and his partner Barbara Jongsma, all of Venice, FL, and Gina Ociesa and her husband Barry Gomes of New Bedford; a sister, Yolande Scotti of New Bedford; 9 grandchildren, Melissa, Aria, Lauren, Jacob, Cassi, Danielle, Matthew, Erin and Karen; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Marcelle Hebert, Jacqueline Walsh, Yvette Fortin, Simone Dube, Lillian Saenz and Roland Obomsawin.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, February 6th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, February 5th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society c/o Holy Name Church 121 Mt.
