Nancy Ann Nooth, 56, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, after a four year battle with breast cancer. Nance, as she was known to family and friends, was the youngest of six children and the only daughter born to the late Wendell and Marianna (Drummond) Nooth.
Nancy graduated from New Bedford High School and began her working life at the West End Day Nursery. She also worked at Tillison Rubber and at Lincoln Park before embarking on a twelve year career with the Department of Corrections. Her greatest joy in her work life was serving in the Health Services Unit at the Mass. Treatment Center where in her position of correctional officer she made many friends. She retired from state service in 2012.
Nancy is survived by her five brothers and their families: Wendell Nooth, Jr. and his wife Betty Jeanne of Mattapoisett, James Nooth and his wife Lorraine of Leesburg, Fl, Joseph Nooth, her caregiver and with whom she shared her home, and Timothy Nooth and his wife Diane, all of New Bedford, and Mark Nooth and his wife Deborah of Meridian, Idaho.
She leaves a dear niece, Tina Lanier of Louisville, KY, and a dear cousin Monica Sylvia of New Bedford. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends, particularly Meg Goslin of Freetown, and her Bridgewater friends Joyce Taylor, Sally Sarabia, Katie Holland and Marion Yullie.
She was the sister-in-law of the late Catherine Nooth and aunt of the late April Nooth and Alexia Marie Lanier.
Nancy had a lifelong love of children; she enjoyed going to the casino, playing her scratch tickets, and camping on the Cape Cod Canal and throughout New England. She loved her music, especially Motown and Smokey Robinson, her family and her cat Boots.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Patricia Andrade and the staff of Southcoast VNA and Hospice for their care and compassion.
