Obituary

Howard R. “Grub” Johnson, 88, of Riverview, FL and formerly of Berlin, NH passed away on Sunday January 26, 2014 in Florida. He was born in Berlin, NH on November 25, 1925 the son of Hilmar and Elise (Dahlsing) Johnson and lived in Berlin until he moved to Florida in 1987. He served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the V. F. W. , the American Legion, the Sons of Norway and H2U. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Berlin for over 70 years and had been currently a member of Apostles Lutheran Church in Brandon, FL. Grub worked for Brown Company as a scaler in the woods for many years and then as head scaler. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.

The family includes his wife Mary (Hamlin) Johnson of Riverview, FL; a son Carl M. Johnson and wife Joann of Milton, GA; a daughter Helen Johnson of Hudson, NH; a brother Mylo Johnson of Berlin, NH; grandchildren Christopher, Lindsay and husband Paul, Amber and Nicole; a great-granddaughter Erica; nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday May 31, 2014 at 10:30 AM.Donations in his memory may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 101 Norway St., Berlin, NH, 03570 or to Development Dept., LifePath Hospice, 12470 Telecom Dr., Suite 300, Temple Terrace, FL, 33637. Local arrangements are by the Bryant Funeral Home, Berlin, NH.
