Linda Guilherme Helme, 87, of New Bedford passed away at Alden Court Nursing Home in Fairhaven on Sunday, January 26, 2014. The daughter of the late John B. and Maria (Nobre de Mello) Guilherme, she was born and educated in New Bedford.
For many years she was employed as a homemaker and cook. She coordinated and catered many weddings and events.
Linda was predeceased by her beloved son, Alan F. Helme. She was the sister of Lydia M. Pina of Taunton, and the late Emiliana Guilherme, Angelina Perry, Dolores Guilherme, Antonio Guilherme, and Walter Guilherme.
She is survived by her nieces, Danielle Johnson (whom she had a hand in rearing), Gaylene DoCanto, Sandra Brazil-Machado, Joyce Yokel, and Patricia O'Brien; her nephews, Wayne Guilherme and John B. Guilherme; great-nieces, Hannah Constantine, Wendy Jo Brazil and Analisa DoCanto Creyton; great-nephews, Eric N. DoCanto, Richard Perry, and Lloyd Perry; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 10 AM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 PM.
