Obituary

BEVERLY: Stanley M. Holiday, Jr., 90, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. He is survived by his loving spouse of 69 years, Jean (Craig) Holiday.
Born in Eliot, Maine on March 12, 1923, he was the son of the late Stanley M., Sr. and Harriett (Buckley) Holiday. He had resided in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for many years before moving to Beverly in 1948. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War Two, he served in the South Pacific as a U.S. Navy pilot. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant in December 1945. Stanley was a graduate of Portsmouth High School and the University of New Hampshire with a degree in design engineering.
Stan was employed as a design engineer for several companies including the United Shoe Machinery Corp. and Itek Corp. He retired in 1986. Stan was a member of St. Andrews Masonic Lodge in Portsmouth NH for over 65 years, a member of the Order of Daedalians, a fraternal organization of military pilots, and a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club 4000 Footer Club.
Throughout his lifetime in Beverly, Stan worked with various youth groups, including Little League Baseball, Boy Scout Troop 6, the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, and Rainbow Camp in Hanson, MA. He and his wife enjoyed traveling the country, having camped in all fifty states. They also loved to travel the world.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Janice I. Allen of Beverly, Richard S. Holiday of Corbett, OR, Craig D. Holiday of Snellville, GA, and Jill H. Coulter, of North Haven, CT; his niece Donna (Powell) Fabisak of North Hampton, NH: 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Nancy Foster and his sister Doris (Holiday) Powell.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 3rd in the Second Congregational Church Chapel, 35 Conant St., Beverly from 10-11 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Second Congregational Church Pastor’s Fund or to a charity of your choice.
