Obituary

Manchester– Lazzero “Lars” F. Amato died January 26, 2014 in his 100th year of life at the Veterans Administration Medical Center following a period of failing health.
He was born in Brockton, MA on April 6, 1914, the son of Francis and Maria (Segadelli) Amato and was educated in Manchester schools.
In February of 1941 he left with the 172nd Field Artillery National Guard and served in the 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion and in the European Theatre of Operations. He landed on Utah Beach and was subsequently engaged in five major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge, and served until the end of WWII. Following military service he was employed in local industry.
He enjoyed ocean and lake boating and fishing.
He was a parishioner of St. Pius X Church and a member of the Legion of 1000 Men at the Precious Blood Monastery.
He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Joseph, Anthony and Louis.
Members of his family include two sisters Yolande Baron and her husband Roland of Manchester and Lena Doyon of Orange, CA., two sisters-in-law, Anita Amato and Susan Amato. Also leaves several nieces and nephews including Nina Amato, Anthony F. Amato, Bernice Stachokas and her husband George, Gino Baron and his wife Gloria, Bonnie Baron, Jo Hovious and her husband Kyle, Donna Boerner and her husband Ed, Gina Boucher and her husband Shawn, Joseph Amato and his wife Susan, Jamie Amato and Phil Doyon. He leaves his special friends the Hornung family and also with gratitude to his good neighbors, Mike and Donna.
The family extends a heart-felt thank you to the entire staff at the VA Medical Center.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at the J. N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 AM in St. Pius X Church. Candia Rd. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
