Obituary

WEBSTER – Paul D. Kenahan, 85, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.
He leaves his wife of 30 years, Kathleen J. (McCarthy) Kenahan; 2 daughters, Kathleen Herbert and her husband Stephen of Thompson, CT and Christine Currier and her husband Douglas of Punta Gorda, FL; 3 stepchildren, Sandra David of Webster, Paul Johansen of Pomfret, CT and Sherie Bombardier and her husband Paul of Webster; 10 grandchildren, Nicole, Zave, Audrey, Christine, Alex, Justin, Jordan, Janelle, Thomas and Shannon; a step daughter-in-law, Maryann Johansen of Charlton; 3 brothers, Bernard, Robert and David Kenahan, all of Rhode Island; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marie Harding and Margaret Carmello, by 4 brothers, Charles Kenahan Jr., Thomas, James and Francis Kenahan, by a stepson Eric Johansen and by a step son-in-law Jeffrey David.
He was born in Providence and raised in Warwick, RI, a son of Charles Kenahan, Sr. and Rose De Lima (Roy) Kenahan. He lived in Keene, NH, East Woodstock, CT and Dudley before moving to Webster. He graduated from Aldrich High School in Warwick, and then earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Providence College. He continued his studies at Georgetown University.
Mr. Kenahan first worked as an insurance agent for the National Grange in Keene, NH. In 1956, he purchased and ran the Healy Insurance in North Woodstock, CT. He then was a substitute teacher at Shepherd Hill Regional High School in Dudley for 17 years, retiring in 1996. He also bartended at various local establishments.
He was a member of Saint Louis Church. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and listening to Irish music.
The family would like to thank the staff at the VNA and Hospice of Southern Worcester County for their caring support during Paul’s illness.
The funeral will be held Saturday, February 1, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St., with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be held at a later date.The family will receive relatives and friends from 8:30 to 10:15 AM Saturday, February 1, in the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Instead, donations may be made to Prader-Willi Syndrome Association of New England, c/o 27 Westward Circle, North Reading, MA 01864.
