Obituary

Americo "Mac" Nobrega, 86, of New Bedford died January 22, 2014 unexpectedly at Rhode Island Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Sheila (Thompson) Nobrega.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Jose and Herminha (Nunes) Nobrega, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Nobrega was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.

He was formerly employed as a comptroller with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Nobrega served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and the Berlin Airlift.
He was a member of the New Bedford Port Society and a past member of Club Madeirense S.S. Sacramento. He enjoyed playing tennis and bicycling.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Nobrega and his companion Audrey Lassey of New Bedford; a daughter, Stephanie Bergeron and her husband Michael of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Joseph Nobrega and his wife Dorothy and Joaquim "Jack" Nobrega and his wife Barbara, all of New Bedford; a grandson, Jason Bergeron and his wife Karen of Acushnet; his bestfriend, Ken Dabrow of Oceanside, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Manuel Nobrega and Sally Fernandes.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday, January 27th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours Sunday, January 26th from 2-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284-9168.
