WALTHAM: Jeremiah "Jerry" Riordan, age 70, a resident of Waltham for 21 years, formerly of Allston and Cambridge, passed away at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Weston on Wednesday, January 22, 2014.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Casazza) Riordan, with whom he celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary on November 11.
Born in Queens, New York on July 13, 1943, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and Grace (Samone) Riordan.
Jerry was raised and educated in Queens, New York.
In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Eugene A. Greene (DD711). He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for service in the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a Clerk by the Waltham and Chestnut Hill U.S. Post Office.
Jerry was an avid New England professional and local sports enthusiast and enjoyed coaching for the past 30 years in the Allston Little League Baseball Program. In addition, he loved music and worked for many years as a Disc Jockey. He also enjoyed reading and watching John Wayne westerns.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mary E. Carey and her husband William of Worcester, Deborah Smith and her husband Todd of Brighton and M. Patricia St. Hilaire of N. Andover; nine grandchildren, Christopher Kelleher, Elizabeth Smith, Michael, Kyle and Matthew Robinson, Shane Carey, Jacqueline and Jessica St. Hilaire and Robert Rupkey; two great grandchildren, Logan St. Hilaire and Noah Dennis; one sister, Margaret Bauman and her husband Henry of Virginia; his mother-in-law, Mary "Allie" (Mackey) Casazza of Tewksbury.
Calling hours are Saturday, Jan. 25, from 9-11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment will be at Tewksbury Cemetery at a later date. Kindly Omit Flowers.
