Alvin E. Whitford, 100, of Old Mystic and Englewood, FL, died at home on Sunday, January 19, 2014.
He was born on June 25, 1913, the son of Urban and Phebe Whitford.
A lifelong craftsman, known as a workaholic, from the family sawmill to general contractor, he specialized in historical home restoration. Countless examples of his craftsmanship abound throughout S.E. Connecticut and Rhode Island.
He is predeceased by his wife of 78 years, Helen, as well as siblings Clark, Marian, Wilmer, Gladys, Eleanor, Estella and Ellery.
He is survived by son Robert (Beverly) Whitford, daughter Ellen (Robert) Williams; grandsons Randall Whitford and Andrew(Roz)Whitford, adopted granddaughter Mary Siegel, and great granddaughters Alexa and Kali.
Alvin’s family will gather for a private service and burial. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Old Mystic United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 542, Old Mystic CT 06372.
