Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Bentley Heath

Augusta, GA --Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Bentley Heath, 94, beloved wife of the late Mr. Thomas Sylvester Heath of 70 years, entered into rest on Sunday, January 19, 2014 after a very long illness which did not diminish her sweet nature.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Reverend Brian LaFavor officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Born August 11, 1919in Leathersville, Lincoln County, Georgia to Mrs. Marie Bennett Bentley and Mr. Otis Hillyer Bentley. She graduated Tubman High School for Girls in 1936. After attending Garrett Commercial School, she worked for Nachman-Rhodes Co., a local ad agency. When her cousin called her to help temporarily in his business, she agreed and retired from the accounting department of that business, Richmond Produce Company after 30 years. She and her husband Tom enjoyed their retirement traveling often in their Airstream (RV) and making friends from as far away as England through the Good Sam Club. Mrs. Heath was a loyal member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church joining in 1933. For 50 Years, she served as a teacher of the Pre School Sunday School Class.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Bowers (Dr. Ronald W.), Donna H. King all of Augusta; six grandchildren, Ronald William “Bill” Bowers, Jr. (Angie), Amy Elizabeth “Beth” McNally (David), Barton “Bart” Bentley Bowers, Bennett P. R. Bowers (Amy), Carter Heath King (April), and Katherine “Katie” King May (Whit); seven great grandchildren, Thomas Heath McNally, John Peyton McNally, Hillyer Brinson Bowers, Sadie Calloway Bowers, Ava Elinor Bowers, Emily Vaughn King, and Elizabeth Louise King; and a great great grandson, Jay Riley McNally; three nephews Bert Bentley (Becky), Bobby Bentley (Cathy), and Brian Bentley (Heather).

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Hubert Bentley (Catherine); and granddaughter in law, Rebekah Beshard Bowers.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
