Obituary

Lawrence F. Rooney, of Plymouth, formerly of South Boston, died on January 17th at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital at Plymouth at the age of 86. The beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Almeida) Rooney, he is survived by his son Lawrence J. Rooney of Middlesex, VT; and his daughters Joanne M. Fleming of Plymouth and Carole R. May of Buzzards Bay. He also leaves his brothers Thomas, Frank, and Fred, his sister Patricia Rooney and his 6 cherished grandchildren Bobby, Ben and Cam Fleming and Donny, Owen and Carley May. Brother of the late Thesesa Earle and Mary Sullivan.
Larry was born in Boston and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a master plumber and was co-owner of Alden Plumbing and had also worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. He was a member of the DAV, VFW, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Woodchucks.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 21st from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St (Rt 3A), N. Plymouth. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 22nd at St. Mary’s Church at 10 AM. Burial will be at Vine Hills Cemetery in Plymouth on Thursday Jan 23rd at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the DAV, P.O. Box 1204, Plymouth, MA 02362 or to the Nathan Hail Foundation, 6 Main St. Ext. #6, Plymouth, MA 02360.
