Obituary

Manuel G. Arruda, 84, of Dartmouth died Friday, January 17, 2014 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Hazel (Pierce) Arruda, to whom he was married for 55 years.
Born in Newport, RI, son of the late John and Mary (Medeiros) Arruda, he had lived in Dartmouth since 1958. A veteran of the Korean War, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Prior to retirement in 1972, he was a personnel manager for the former Cliftex. He was a member of Westport Congregational Church. Mr. Arruda was a Past Master of the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M., Westport, Past Grand Patron of the RI Order of the Eastern Star, Past Patron of the Cortez Allen Chapter #161 O.E.S., Westport and Past Patron of Signet Chapter #21, RI.
Including his wife, survivors include a son: Alden T. Arruda of Germany; 3 brothers: Joseph Arruda of MA, Arthur Arruda of Tiverton and John Arruda of Bristol; 2 sisters: Emily Perry of Fall River and Elsie Gaison of Tiverton; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was father of the late Katherine Arruda.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Potter Funeral Home at 7:00 P.M.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 – 7 P.M. prior to the service, with a Masonic service by the Noquochoke Lodge A.F. & A.M. at 6:00 P.M. and a Order of the Eastern Star service by the Cortez Allen Chapter #161 at 6:30 P.M.
Interment will be private.
