Minnie Lee Newell Pollard, 93, of Tifton died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Sylvia Giddings. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty. Rev. Jim Duggan will officiate with burial to follow in the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty Cemetery. Hilton Gann, Randy Tucker, Carlton Tucker, Michael Tucker, Wayne Tucker and James Hester will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Pollard will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Pollard was born on February 24, 1920 in Marion County, Alabama to Seth Verdo Newell and Mary Eugene York Newell, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Julius Pollard, who died January 17, 1980; one brother, Preston Newell; and four sisters, Willie Mae Hester, Florene Pitts, Lennie Maurer and Winnie Gann. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty.
Mrs. Pollard is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia Jean and John “Sonny” Giddings of Tifton; two grandsons, David Giddings of Tifton and Glenn Giddings of Danville, Virginia; one sister, Ethelene Tucker of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
