Fred R. Altavilla, age 89, of Lynn, died after a brief illness at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers Jan. 13.
Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late Rafael A. and Josephine (D’Iorio) Altavilla. Husband of the late Jean (Capozzi) Altavilla.
Mr. Altavilla had served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II.
Fred was a self-employed die cutter for 40 years and was former owner of Alta Die Cutting Company for 17 years prior to retirement.
Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
He survived by his children, Wayne R. Altavilla and his wife Andrea of Byfield, John J. Altavilla of Lynn, Dennis P. Altavilla and his wife Sue of Saugus; grandchildren Melissa, Tina, Jessica, Wayne Jr.; great-grandchildren Dillon, Kyle, Brianna, Kristin, Taryn, Matthew, Gianna; sister Rose Altavilla of Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Frank, Carmen, Tony Altavilla, Mary Faringo, Angie Nye, Anna Palermo and Josephine Wilbur.
Service information: Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the NADWORNY Funeral Home, 798 Western Ave., Lynn ,on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by his Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, Boston Street, Lynn, at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Visiting hours prior from 8:30 to 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Fred’s memory to The Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers 01923.
