Obituary

Alfred Henry "Andy" Gildersleeve Jr. died January 10, 2014 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, New London, CT after a short illness. He was born in 1936 the son of Alfred and Helen Gildersleeve, brother of Richard Gildersleeve and Judith Gildersleeve duPont.

He was beloved by his family, his wife of fifty years, Barbara Spaulding Gildersleeve; daughter Lucy and her husband David Willoughby and daughter Allison and her husband Joel Bach. He was the adored grandfather of Grace and Helen Willoughby; Henry and Elliott Bach. He was predeceased by a son, Alfred Philip, in 1988.

Andy grew up in Stonington, and after working for Sonoco Products Co. he returned to the area with his family in 1968, where they enjoyed living in North Stonington for forty years. They moved to Stonington in 2006. In 1976 he co-founded Coogan-Gildersleeve Appliance Co. in Mystic.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18, at 12 noon at the North Stonington Congregational Church, 89 Main St., North Stonington, CT.
