Obituary

Whitman – Robert Loring Baker 90, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Saturday January 11 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 33 years to the “love of his life” the late Mary (English) Baker. He was also predeceased by his second wife of 9 years the late Annie (Feirick) Baker.

Born in Pembroke, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Mildred (Chute) Baker and a graduate of Hanover High School.

Robert had been a proud Army Veteran having served in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge as well as European Theatre Campaigns.

He had moved to Whitman in 1954, where he along with his wife Mary had raised their four children, and had remained in the family home for over 60 years.

Prior to his retirement he had worked for over 40 years as a Service Technician for the former Brockton-Taunton Gas Company.

He had enjoyed electronics, camping and during his retirement had loved to travel, but his greatest joy was the time spent with his family.

He is survived by his loving children Carol A. Baker of Whitman, Mark L. Baker and his wife Carol of Centerville, Janet Robertson and her husband Richard of Whitman and his daughter-in-law Jean Baker of Abington as well as 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind Margie T., his companion of 15 years. He was the father of the late Jeffrey P. Baker.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service to be held Wednesday January 15 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Hanover. By request of the family all other services are private.
