Catherine A. Murray, a longtime resident of Newburyport, died at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill on Friday evening, January 10, 2014. She was 62 years old.
Born in Akron, Ohio on October 15, 1951, she was the beloved daughter of Patti-Lou (Myers) Murray of Andover and the late Herbert P. Murray. Catherine was a graduate of Andover High School and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She also earned a Masters Degree in Education from Leslie University. As a School Teacher for for the City of Haverhill for more that 38 years she worked at the Greenleaf School, Cogswell School, the Early Education Center in Bradford and the Bradford Elementary. During the summer months, Catherine worked in the Massachusetts Migrant Education Program.
In her spare time, Catherine loved to travel and enjoyed reading, gardening, needlework, cooking and walking. Above all, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews, including: Christopher and Lainie Murray of Byfield, MA and Elsie, Benjamin, and Joseph Murray of Ridgefield, CT.
Her funeral mass was celebrated at St. Robert Bellamine Church, 198 Haggett's Pond Road, Andover on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 11 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Calling hours were held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Monday, January 13, 2014, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in the West Parish Garden Cemetery in Andover.
