Obituary

Norman E. Lovely, 82, of Worcester, died Friday, January 10th in the Holden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Elaine D. (Drake) Lovely; his daughter, Elise M. Wagner and her husband, James; and two grandchildren, Matthew J. and Hannah L. Wagner all of Northborough. Two sons, Paul J. Lavallee and Peter A. Lovely predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Everett F. and Jeanette (Dalbec) Lovely. Mr. Lovely served in the United States Army during the Korean War; and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany working with the Counterintelligence Corps. He was a 1949 graduate of St. John’s High School, a 1953 graduate of The College of the Holy Cross, and earned his Masters in Library Science from Simmons College. Norman had been employed by the Worcester Public Library for 40 years, working 20 years as head of the reference department. After retirement he had volunteered with the Catholic Charities Food Pantry. He was a member of the Holy Cross Club, the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association and the Guild of Our Lady of Providence. Mr. Lovely enjoyed reading, hiking, playing the violin, listening to classical music and watching baseball.
Norman’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Holden Nursing and Rehabilitation for the exemplary care provided to Norman for the past year and a half.
The funeral is Monday, January 13th, from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 353 Grove Street. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are Sunday, January 12th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
