DOHERTY John X. Longtime resident of Roslindale, Jan. 9, 2014. Age 72. Beloved son of the late John Z. and Mary (Lyons) Doherty.
He is survived by an Aunt, Margaret E. Lyons of Canton; cousins, Mary Lyons of Canton, Barbara Shapanus of Mansfield and Richard Lyons of London, England and many close friends including John Henry, Joyce Campbell, Steve Barr and Mary Gearty.
Graduate of Roxbury Latin School; Harvard University- BA in History; Boston College Lynch School- MS in Mathematics; additional studies at Brown University. As a devoted Boston Public School teacher for 45 years, John dedicated his life to the students of Brighton High School, where he served as a math teacher, math coach, and Department Chairman. Following his retirement, he continued to serve Brighton High School, volunteering his services full time to assist in the scheduling and implementation of numerous school programs. John will be remembered for his keen intelligence, his commitment to education, and his personal sacrifices on behalf of the students and faculty of Brighton High School.
Funeral from the P.E. Murray-George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY Monday at 9am. Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Roslindale at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5pm. Interment Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury.
