CHICOPEE – Mercedes (Gonzalez) Noval Terrell, 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Monday, January 6, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett East in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born at home in Gijon, Spain on March 12, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Manuel and Dolores (Menendez) Gonzalez. She was raised in Spain and moved to Chicopee in 1955 where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was a longtime seamstress and previously worked at Century Cleaners in Chicopee and the former Forbes Dress Shop in Holyoke. She was last employed as a housekeeper at Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. She was a member of the Chicopee Council on Aging and was a frequent visitor at the Chicopee Senior Center where she volunteered her time and participated in many of their activities. She also volunteered her time at the Valley Opportunity Council in Chicopee and spent many hours reading to the children at the Chicopee Parks in the summer months. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Most of all, she was a devoted homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Joaquin Noval who was Called Home in 1952 and Eli C. Terrell who was Called Home on October 18, 1991. Besides her husbands and parents, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers, Jose Manuel, Luis, and Eduardo Gonzalez. She leaves her loving children, Joaquin E. “Joe” Noval and his wife, Noreen, and Mary Ann Vecchiarelli and her husband, Domenic, all of Chicopee; her three cherished grandchildren, Jason Noval, Steven Vecchiarelli and Marisa Vecchiarelli; a special little girl named Brianna who affectionately called her “grandma”; her dear brother and sister, Manuel Gonzalez and Pilar Martinez, both of Spain; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Gonzalez, Noval, and Terrell families. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, January 10, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (the funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday morning, January 10, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. before the Mass. (The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home).
