Stamatia (Tsilis) Athanasiou, 88, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully Monday, January 6th in St. Vincent Hospital with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Nikolaos; her four sons, Athanasios and his wife, Roula, Pavlos and his wife, Gilkeria, Petros and his wife, Ourania, Achilles and his wife, Elly all of Worcester; and her daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Vasilios Pashou of Shrewsbury; her brother, Vasilios; two sisters, Ekaterina and Maria. Stamatia was adored by her fifteen grandchildren; Vageli who welcomes her with open arms, Niko, Christos, Maki, Niko, Stefanos, Niko, Maria, Stamatia, Billy, Dino, Lina, Katerina, Christina and Eleni; nine great-grandchildren and little angel Max. She was predeceased by two sisters Panajota amd Victoria.
She was born in Epirus, Greece the daughter of Konstantinos and Eleni (Giakis) Tsilis. Family was the center of our precious yiayia’s life. She loved to travel to Greece with her husband. Her happiest times were spent with her children and grandchildren whom she loved more than anything in the world. We will forever miss our beloved yiayia and our lives will never be the same without her presence. We shall always remember her and she will always have a place in our hearts.
Calling hours are Wednesday, January 8th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. Her funeral service is, Thursday, January 9th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery.
