Ralph A. Torres, 81, of Ipswich, died Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington. He was the husband of Elaine (Farynick) Torres, with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage.
Born in Fall River on Dec. 27, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Gloria (Franco) Torres. He had resided in Topsfield for more than thirty years.
Ralph was hired by United Airlines in 1957, at JFK Airport in New York as an airline mechanic. He retired in 1998, as the station manager at Logan Airport in his native Massachusetts.
Ralph will be fondly remembered for his devotion to his family, good sense of humor and knack for storytelling. He was extremely proud of his Portuguese heritage and visited the Azores with his family. Ralph was an avid golfer and enjoyed day-trading stocks and mutual funds. He was known within his family as Mr. Handyman and if he did not have the right tool to complete a project he created it himself.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Carol White and her husband Michael of Boxford and Jennifer Torres of Ipswich, two grandchildren, Schuyler and Ethan White of Boxford, two brothers, John and James Torres, and a large extended family. He was predeceased by a brother, William Torres.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, January 6, 2014 in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Topsfield. Burial followed in Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220.
