Obituary

Frederick Arthur Alexander Jr. passed away on January 4, 2014, at Southwood Nursing Facility of Norwell. He was born on April 19, 1924 in Everett, MA, Son of the late Rose Louise and Frederick A. Alexander Sr. of Quincy. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary (Docker) Alexander of Rockland, formerly of Barrow-in-Furnesss, Cumbria, England, his sons Edward A. and wife Ardeen of Pembroke, David C. and wife Helen of Rockland and daughter Janice (Alexander) Campbell and husband Robert of Halifax. Also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Fred was a graduate of Quincy High School where he was a 2 time State Champion on the wrestling team. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII as a radio operator attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Fred was stationed temporarily in England where he met and married his wife Mary in 1945. He was a former employee of Arch Gear Works in North Quincy and later owned and operated his own machine shop. He was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and received his 50 year veteran’s medal from Weymouth United Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Weymouth, Mass and also an honorary member of Rabboni Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Westwood, Mass.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in East Weymouth for over 50 years.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Weymouth United Methodist Church, 747 Broad St. E. Weymouth on Wednesday, January 8 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM. A Masonic Service will be held on Tuesday at 7 PM With the Weymouth United Masonic Lodge.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Fred’s Memory to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
