KIRK, Richard S. of Wellesley Hills, age 87, passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 3, 2014. Born in Schenectady, NY, Dick Kirk was a resident of Wellesley for over 60 years. His 50 year career as an architect was spent in Boston at the firms Maginnis and Walsh and Kennedy, Desmond and Lord, Jackson and Moreland and finally Raytheon Company. He worked on many projects both domestically and internationally, with his most recognizable being the Architect in Charge of construction of the Eastern Airlines terminal, the Control Tower and the original International terminal at Boston’s Logan International Airport. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, NY and the University of Notre Dame. He served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He served as the Manager of the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra for many years.
Dick’s hobby and passion was to retrieve items from the Reusables Area at the Wellesley Recycling and Disposal Facility and, after reconditioning the items, giving them to family and friends. He made a lot of friends at the Reusables Area and his family appreciates all of their support.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Lou Kirk, survivors include his son Richard Scott Kirk and his wife Clare, their children, Richard and his wife Kate, Alexis, and Martha and her husband Michael Rebocho, daughter Melanie Ahanotu and her children Luke and Christine, daughter Patricia Kirk and daughter Caroline Kirk-Cordero and her son John.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Monday, Jan. 6 at 9 am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul’s Church, Wellesley at 10 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday, Jan. 5 from 3-6 pm. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to St. Paul’s Church , 502 Washington St., Wellesley, MA 02482 of which he was a member for 60 years.
