Obituary

Cyrille A.J. Grenier 94 of Salem, died Tuesday night, December 31, 2013 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Theresa A. (Lamarre) Grenier, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Exilia (Turgeon) Grenier. As a young man Cy served with the US Coast Guard during World War II. For many years he worked with his brother-in-law in the Pelletier Shade and Awning Company of Salem. In 1954 he and his wife moved to Glendale, California, where he was employed in maintenance for the Glendale School Department. While in California he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Following his retirement in 1983, he and Theresa returned to Salem. He was a member of St. James Parish of Salem.

In addition to his wife Theresa of Salem, he is also survived several in-laws, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Viola Pelletier, Yvonne Aylwin, Eleanor & Florence Grenier, and four brothers, Placid, Alfred, Ronaldo & Leopold Grenier.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 9:00 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours at the funeral home are on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
