Pauline Cotney Underwood, 94, of Tifton died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Southern Care Assisted Living. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2014, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with a private family entombment to be held in Tift Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Underwood was born on January 30, 1919 in Tift County. She was the daughter of the late John Cotney and Teresa Hand Cotney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Underwood; one son, Paul Underwood; and one sister, Lodis C. Lee. She was a member of Vanceville Congregational Christian Church. She retired from the Tift County Board of Education in 1981 as Director of School Food Service, after 30 years of service in the School Lunch Program.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Shirley Underwood of Chula; five grandchildren, Douglas Underwood of Florida, Russell Underwood of Blairsville, Linda Underwood Truman and husband Clint of Greensboro, North Carolina, Christina Rayburn of Ray City and Tim Underwood of Omega; and six great-grandchildren, Finn Queen, Colin Queen, Megan Rayburn, Blake Underwood, Caleb Underwood and Cavan Truman.
