Charlene Evans, 58, of Fitzgerald, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. Williams Catholic Church with Deacon Ed Drexler officiating. Philip C. Jay, III will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Troupe Cemetery in Ben Hill County. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Ms. Evans was born September 13, 1955 in Ben Hill County to Sonny Evans and the late Data Jane Young Evans. She attended training in Brunswick as well as the Jessamine Place in Fitzgerald and Sunny Dale Training Center in Ocilla. Charlene never met a stranger and loved people. She was always ready to give a hug and once she made a connection with someone, she became a friend for life. Charlene was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church.
She is survived by her father: Sonny Evans of Camden County; sister and brother-in-law: Debbie & Jimmy Troupe of Fitzgerald; nephew: Evan Troupe of Statesboro; niece: Leanna & Joe Carswell and great-niece: Anna Jane Carswell, all of Augusta; uncle: Andy Evans and aunt: Julia Roland, both of Camden County; uncle: Claude Young of Ocilla and aunt: Brenda Cromartie of Fitzgerald. The family wishes to recognize and publicly thank the staff and employees of the Jessamine Place for the care they provided to Charlene over the years, specifically Annie Ruth Price with whom Charlene lived and caregivers: Shirley Williams, Sharon Watts, and Cutrenia Alford.
