Everett Wood, Jr., 81, of Ty Ty died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014, at Tifton’s First Assembly of God. Rev. John Thomas will officiate with burial to follow in the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty Cemetery. Keith Wood, Tyler Wood, Taylor Wood, Calvin Perry, Heath Barry and Keith Newell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Tifton’s First Assembly of God and former employees of J. P. Stevens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Wood will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Wood was born on August 13, 1932 in Ben Hill County and was the son of Everett Noah Wood and Mary Ann Hogan Wood, both deceased. He was retired from textile management at J. P. Stevens and home construction. He was a former Ty Ty City Councilman and had lived in Ty Ty for 58 years. He had been a member of Tifton’s First Assembly of God for 52 years, where he had served as a deacon.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Willodean Wood of Ty Ty; two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Tina Wood of Tifton and Steve and Melissa Wood of Tifton; one brother, Sam Wood of Norman Park; one sister, Minnie Bullington of Ty Ty; five grandchildren, Keith and his wife Brandi, Tyler, Ansley, Hope and Taylor Wood; and two great-grandchildren, Brodie and Grayson Wood.
