Obituary

Edward O. Gourdin Jr, of Marstons Mills, passed away on Monday December 23rd at the age of 78. Born in Boston, the son of the late Edward O. and Amalia (Ponce) Gourdin. He is survived by his devoted wife Barbara (Chrisfield) Gourdin, his daughter Velicia Waymer and her husband Winston of Hampton, VA; and his son Edward Gourdin III and his wife Dawanda of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves his grandchildren Brittni, Dillan and Rhetta Peters and Alyssa and Jasmine Gourdin. Also nine nieces and nephews. The youngest of four children, Edward was predeceased by his three sisters Elizabeth, Amalia and Anne. He also leaves three stepchildren, Kim, Paul and Robert Douglas. A fourth stepson, Dale Douglas, passed away in November.
Edward worked as an automobile mechanic during the years he was a student at Brighton High School. When he moved to Marstons Mills in 1970, he bought and operated the Mashpee Garage on Route 130. An ardent jazz lover and musician, he formed the Marstons Mills Quartet which performed locally. He was also a member of the 272nd National Guard and of the noted 215th Army Band.
Funeral services will be held on Monday December 30th at the Doane, Beale and Ames Funeral Home, 160 West Main St, Hyannis under the direction of the Richard Davis Funeral Homes of Plymouth and Manomet. Visiting with the family will be from 11 AM to 12 PM followed by a service at 12 PM and burial at Mosswood Cemetery in Barnstable.
