Barbara Ann Yelland, 79 of Derry, passed Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Care Center of Derry, after a period of declining health. She was born April 7, 1934 in Methuen, MA and was the daughter of the late William and Doris (Fritzsche) Wallace. She was raised and educated in Lawrence and had been a resident of Derry for the past 48 yrs.
Barbara was employed by the Derry school system for many years in various capacities and retired from the Derry School Board after 18 years of service. She was a longtime member of the Derry PTA. She enjoyed crafts including scrapbooking, was an accomplished seamstress and loved to shop. She will forever be remembered as a “busy mother of 5”.
Members of the family include four daughters, Susan Boucher of Salem, NH, Kathi Watts of Dracut, MA, Robin Saunders and her husband Eugene of Derry and Patricia Yelland and her boyfriend William Casey, of Derry, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Nancy Anderson of Running Springs, CA. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 32 years, William E. Yelland in 1982, and by her son William J. Yelland in 1978.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at 10am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave. in Derry. Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery of E. Derry at a later date.
