Mr. Frederick J. Moretti, age 89, of West Roxbury, died October 6, 2004 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital. Mr. Moretti was a retired master craftsman. He worked as a mason for more than thirty years for the Cambridge Laborers Union Local 151. He retired in the late 1970’s. Mr. Moretti was born in Boston and grew up in the city’s Italian North End neighborhood. He attended and graduated from local Boston public schools.
During WW II, he served with 162nd Infantry Regiment as an anti tank crewman. He saw service in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines.
Mr. Moretti was an active supporter of the Democratic Party and was an avid racehorse enthusiast.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, October 14th, in St. John Chrysostom Church, West Roxbury, at 10am. Burial will follow in Mt. Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8pm at the P. E. Murray – George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre Street, West Roxbury.
He is survived by his two children John A. Moretti of Wrentham, and Verna A. Saxe of Marblehead. He leaves his siblings Carmen Moretti of Revere, John Moretti and Anna Imbergamo both of Hyde Park. Grandfather of Lynne Cook of Hopkinton, and Laura Gold of Phoenix, AZ. Great grandfather of Andrew Cook.
He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Colella) Moretti. Brother of the late Gennaro, Anthony, Michael, Joseph Moretti, and Elizabeth Gannetta.
