Robert C. Dorney, 73

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Robert C. Dorney, age 73, of Mansfield, formerly of Stoughton passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield.
He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (O’Malley) Dorney to whom he was wed on September 3, 1966.
Born in North Brookfield, MA on May 19, 1940, he was a loving son of the late Francis and Eleanor V. (Jacques) Dorney.
Bob grew up in North Brookfield and was a 1958 graduate of North Brookfield High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force between the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged, he resumed his education and was graduate of the Worcester Junior College.
For 30 years, Mr. Dorney had worked as a sales manager which included positions with the Nissen Baking Co., Wonder Bread and Sunbeam Bread.
Bob had made his home in Mansfield for the past 18 years and had formerly resided in Stoughton where he raised his family.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield and was a member and past Grand Knight of the San Salvador Council # 200 in Stoughton. While living in Stoughton he was also active in town sports which included little league and basketball.
Bob was an avid New England sports fan, his favorite teams to cheer on being the New England Patriots and the Boston College Eagles football team. He was also an avid golfer, enjoyed ice fishing, and most of all loved being in the presence of his adoring family.
The Dorney’s would like to offer their sincere thanks to the staff at the Village at Willow Crossings and the Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care for the love and kindness shown to Bob and his family.
In addition to his beloved wife Judy, he is survived by his devoted children, LeeAnn D. Cerretani and her husband Joseph of Mansfield and Robert J. Dorney and his wife Susan of Foxboro. He was the dear brother of Mary Wheeler of North Brookfield, Joanne Nelson of California, Gail Vescera of New Jersey, and the late Jean O’Connor, James Dorney, Gladys Ronayne and William Dorney. He is also survived by his cherished 4 grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, January 3rd at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 2nd from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
