Obituary

Francis Gillespie, 88, of New Bedford died Friday December 27, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John J. and Mary E. (Mahoney) Gillespie, he lived in New Bedford for all of his life.

Mr. Gillespie was formerly employed as a machinist at the Continental Screw Company.

He was a member of the Andrews-Dahill Post 1531 Veterans of Foreign Wars. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater.

Survivors include a nephew, Edward J. Gillespie and his wife Susan of Dartmouth.

He was the brother of the late Robert, John, Charles, Eugene, and Thomas Gillespie, and uncle of the late Robert Gillespie.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
