Obituary

Violet G. (Derk) Rogers, a former 45 year resident of Melrose, entered into eternal life on Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Village at Waterman Lake in Smithfield, Rhode Island. She was 94 years old.

Violet was born in Ranshaw, Pennsylvania on June 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Walter Derk and Stefania (Perchelski) Derk. She grew up in Shamokin, Pennsylvania where she was educated. Violet was a homemaker who exhibited great talent in arts and crafts and those who knew her are kept warm with her afghans and memories of Vi. She was a former CCD teacher, Eucharistic minister at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Wakefield and member of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church Women's Guild, a Girl Scout leader and Marion Medal.

She is the beloved wife of the late Albert J. Rogers. She is the devoted mother of Debra Coleman and her husband Raymond of Glocester, Rhode Island, Pamela Meroski and her husband Theodore of Tewksbury and John Rogers and his wife Michelle of Nashua, New Hampshire. She is the loving Grandmother to Jeffrey, Gregory and Meredith Coleman and Kate and Beth Meroski.

A Funeral Mass was held for Violet on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield followed by her burial at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, New Hampshire.
