Robert P. Klein 81, a lifelong resident of Medway passed away peacefully on December 27, 2013 at his home surrounded by family; after a valiant fight with cancer. He was the husband of Pauline K. [Rath] Klein; they were married for 58 years. He was born in Boston on December 14, 1932, the son of the late Paul and Marie (Gillig) Klein.
Mr. Klein was raised and educated in Medway, a 1951 graduate of Medway High School; where he was the captain of the track team. He was very proud of the fact that he never lost a race at the 440 distance during his four years on the team.
Mr. Klein volunteered to serve his country and did so honorably with the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a paratrooper after which he was stationed in Germany as an interpreter.
Robert retired in 1988 from the New England Telephone Company where he worked for 30 years as a Toll Technician. Mr. Klein was very active in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union Local 2325; having held office for many years as Business Manager, Executive Board Member and later being elected as Treasurer.
He was a life member of the Medway V.F.W. Post 1526, the New England Telephone Pioneers - Denver Chapter, Medway Council of Elders, Inc. and AARP. Bob had a great sense of humor and always had a joke for everyone. He was an avid gardener and generously shared his crops with family, neighbors & friends. Mr. Klein was a member of St. Joseph Parish.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and a granddaughter, Paul Klein and his wife Sandra of Blackstone, David Klein and his wife Mary Elizabeth and their daughter Rose Marie of Scituate and Peter Klein of Medway and his companion Lisa Lavelle.
DUE TO THE SNOW STORM, his funeral will be held on SATURDAY, JANUARY 4 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber Street in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) at 12 p.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church in Medway at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will STILL be on THURSDAY from 4 - 8 p.m.
