TEWKSBURY - Robert W. Hommel , age 73, a Tewksbury businessman, died unexpectedly December 24, at Lowell General Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home. He was the beloved husband of Elaine C. (Aloi) Hommel, with whom he had celebrated a 54th wedding anniversary this past April 30th.

He was born in Cambridge, January 30, 1940, the son of the late Robert and Dorothy Hommel, and was raised in Arlington and Medford. He moved to Tewksbury in 1976 to raise his family.

Bob worked as a career auto body mechanic for several area shops before founding his own company, Hommel’s Auto Body in Tewksbury.
He was a communicant of St. William’s Church, and thoroughly enjoyed his role as a “family man.” He was the neighborhood “Mr. Fix It,” to whom friends and neighbors would turn to for any and every kind of repair, from lawn mowers to automobiles. He also enjoyed travel to Las Vegas, which would include all the sights, like a side trip to the Grand Canyon or the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert G. and Jean (Connolly) Hommel of Townsend, William D. and Lisa (Spillane) Hommel of Lunenburg, Richard K. and Mary (Trickett) Hommel of Billerica; a daughter, Patricia A. Hommel of Tewksbury; six beloved grandchildren, Robert T. Hommel and Nicholas D. Hommel of Townsend, Kerri M. Hommel and Michael W. Hommel of Lunenburg, Emily K. Hommel and Victoria L. Hommel of Billerica; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Tolson and Elaine Costa.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 31, in St. William’s Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorials to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701, visit americanheart.org will be appreciated.
