Herbert H. Kresge, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2013 at his home with his family by his side. He was the loving husband for 33 years of Bertha A. (Beaulieu) Walsh Kresge and the son of Florence (Miller) and James Kresge, Jr. He was born in Hanover, PA and moved to this area after his military duty. Herbert was employed at Corson Cadillac in New Bedford and then was self-employed at Herb and Norm’s Auto Repairs until his retirement. Herbert was a communicant of St. Joseph & St. Therese Church in New Bedford. He enjoyed playing games with his grandchildren as well as reading to them, liked to travel and playing card games with his family and friends.
Mr. Kresge proudly served our country in the United States Army earning the rank of PFC.
His surviving family includes his wife, Bertha A. Walsh Kresge of New Bedford, 2 daughters: Nancy Ann Thomas of Maine and Ann Marie Demers and her companion, Bob Correia, of Acushnet; 3 step children: Kenneth Walsh and his wife, Cheryl, of Acushnet, Christine Roszkowicz and her husband, Raymond, of Lakeville, Sandra O’Malley and her husband, Michael, of New Bedford; a sister, Ruth Mattie of Niagara Falls, as well as 8 grandchildren including Eric and Craig Demers of Acushnet, 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings: James K. Kresge, Jr, Eleanor M. Siracusa, Harriet M. Hydock and Marion E. Holland.
A Funeral Mass for Mr. Kresge will be held on Saturday, December 28 at St. Joseph & St. Therese Church on Duncan St. in New Bedford, beginning at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends who would like to attend the Mass can kindly meet directly at church. Cremation will follow. Visiting hours are omitted and a private burial with full military honors will take place at a later date. Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth in New Bedford.
