Our Mom, So Lan Kong Moy, was born on August 2, 1923 in the Nine Family Village of the Guangdong Province of China. On December 10, 1942, she married our late father, Kin Chau Moy. The couple then immigrated with their three daughters and four sons to the United States in 1963, with a brief stay with relatives in New York City, before finally settling in Boston. To help support the family, Mom worked in the garment industry and became a life-long member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union. The Moy family bought their first home in 1971 in Jamaica Plain and was among the first few Chinese families to move into this neighborhood. Mom and Dad raised the family together in this home until his passing in 1983. Mom nurtured close friendships with neighbors and enjoyed her retirement years in constant companionship with her friends, relatives, children and grandchildren. She went to her eternal rest at home on December 23, 2013, surrounded at various times by her 6 children and 16 grandchildren. Our Mom is survived by her children, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Jack Lee (husband of deceased elder daughter Carmen); daughter Stella and Gerard Fong; daughter Anita and Siu Ah Chin; son Nelson and Lillian; son David and Carol; son Norman and Wendy; son Hung and Sarah; 16 grandchildren;and 2 great-granddaughters.
