Obituary

Peter Ronald Lampasona, 84, of Ledyard, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at Fairview in Groton.

He was born in Everett, Mass., on Dec. 5, 1929, the son of Joseph and Diane (Cesarini) Lampasona. He married Blanche Buresh on July 1, 1951. She predeceased him in 2001.

Peter served in the Korean War, first as a printer in the Navy assigned to the USS Fulton, he then went into the National Guard and after that joined the Coast Guard.

He started in the mobile home business working for Arlington Homes and in 1972 began his own business, Dolphin Mobile Homes, now known as Gold Star Homes which has expanded into sales of modular homes, and property management for Tollgate Estates which he and his cousin developed. He and Carmen Merlino acquired a 47 unit mobile home park and they went on to build Tollgate Estates, a 107 townhouse rental complex in Groton. He and other partners developed and operated Great Brook Golf in Groton. He built and sold many homes in the area.

Peter was a man of adventure. He went on many hunting excursions, fishing trips, snowmobile outings, piloted a plane and filled his bucket list overflowing! He was a member of the Groton Rotary Club for many years not missing a meeting, as well as being a lifetime member of the Groton Sportsman Club.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Karen Ragonese of Ledyard; four children, Joseph and wife, Caroline Lampasona, of Gales Ferry, Karen and husband, Steve Delaporta, of Gales Ferry, Sandra and husband, Dana Kirk, of Ledyard, and Peter Lampasona Jr. and partner, Michael Riske, of Waterford. He is also survived by five grandchildren; Jessica S. Hasting, Sara Pasnau, Jason Lampasona, Katie Roumbakis, Travis Kirk; and one great-grandson, Jacob Pasnau.

His family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic. A funeral home service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, with burial following in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
