Jewell E. Merritt, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at Dorminy Medical Center, Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at Cannonville Baptist Church, Wilcox County, with Rev. Talmadge Wilcox and Rev. Jimmy McDuffie officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Merritt was born February 17, 1913, in Wilcox County, Georgia, to the late Joseph Jackson and Alma White Wofford. She lived in Wilcox County and Ben Hill County most of her life. Mrs. Merritt was a retired farm wife and seamstress and the wife of a World War I Veteran. She was an avid fisherman and loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Merritt is survived by her sons: Robert “Bob” Merritt, Abbeville, Billy M. Merritt and Jimmy M. Merritt, both of Fitzgerald; one daughter: Lawana M. Wilcox, Pineview, GA; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Matthew Merritt, two brothers and three sisters.
