Shirley E. Hamel, 88, passed away Saturday morning, December 14, 2013.
She was born August 14, 1925 in Springfield, MA and moved to Yulee, FL in 1989 from Miami, FL.
Shirley and her late husband, Rev. Melvin Hamel asked Christ in their heart at the age of 39 and he became a pastor. Together , through them, many heard the gospel of Christ. Shirley and Melvin served the Lord for the rest of their life and many accepted the Lord under their ministry. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hamel was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Melvin J. Hamel.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Carole and Ernie Fondry of Yulee, FL; a son and daughter in law, Richard and Dottie Hamel of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Susan Skipper, Robin Springer and Rev. Glen Hamel; 11 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, at new Life Baptist Church in Yulee with Rev. Truman Blankenship officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow in the family burial estate at Green Pine Cemetery.
