Charlie Alton Stone, 71, of Omega died Friday, December 13, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Lenox Christian Fellowship. Rev. Jimmie Hinson will officiate with remembrances to be given by Tommy Stone and Rev. Charlene Griffin. Interment will follow in Lenox City Cemetery with Rev. Greg Hester officiating. His grandsons, Caleb Harnage, Andrew Harnage, Austin Harnage, Colton Stone, Justin Stone, Zackery Stone, Adam Sumner, Nathan Shaw and his nephews, Gene Hinson and Steve Sumner will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Sumner, Johnny Lindsey, Jess Lindsey, Ronnie Bennett, Ruben West, Joe Miley, Josh McLamb, Emmett Yancey Sr., Allen Varnadoe, Dreida Dillard, Karen Clements, Joe Sangster, Ricky Gandy and Michael Carr. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 15, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Stone will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Stone was born on July 26, 1942 in Nashville and was the son of Carl M. Stone Sr. and Lee Ella Simmons Stone, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Mitchell and Viola Shivers Hinson; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hancock Hinson and Bertha Johnson Hinson; and a brother-in-law, Rudolph Sumner. He was the owner and operator of S&S Cabinets. He loved his wife and family and he enjoyed singing, fishing and was a hard worker. He was a member of Lenox Christian Fellowship.
Mr. Stone is survived by his wife of 50 years, Libby Hinson Stone of Omega; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Angie Stone of Tifton, Tony and Traci Stone of Omega; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Scot Harnage of Sparks, Charlene and Scott Sumner of Albemarle, North Carolina and Cindy and Steve Shaw of Tifton; one brother, Carl Stone Jr. and wife Sandra of Valdosta; one sister, Nelda Stone Walker and husband Charles of Hazelhurst; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Jimmie Hinson of Lenox and Bobby Hinson of Omega; a sister-in-law, Mary Hinson Sumner of Omega; and 13 grandchildren, Gabrielle, Caleb, Andrew and Austin Harnage, Colton and Lauren Stone, Justin, Zackery and Amber Stone, Adam and Anna-Grace Sumner and Nathan and Sophie Shaw.
