Donald H. Dion, 63

Dateline: Norton, MA

Donald H. Dion, age 63. A lifelong resident of the Chartley section of Norton passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Rhode Hospital in Providence.
Born in Attleboro, MA on September 7, 1950, he was a loving son of the late Donald F. and Marguerite “Tisa” (Bottomley) Dion.
He grew up in Norton and was a 1968 graduate of Norton High School. Following graduation he attended Norfolk Agricultural School in Walpole and received his bachelors degree in Arboriculture from Stockbridge at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Donald had been employed for the past 43 years as an arborist. He was presently working at Harney Construction in Rehoboth and had previously been employed for 23 years for Hixon Tree Service in Dighton. Donald also held an arborist license in the state of Rhode Island.
He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton where he also served as a collector at Sunday morning Mass for many years.
Donald was truly the epitome of what it meant to be a true outdoorsman. He along with his twin brother and best friend David enjoyed salt water fishing, hunting and shooting sporting clays.
He was a member of the Independent Sportsman’s Club in Foxboro and the National Rifle Association. Donald, along with his family treasured the many years spent relaxing on West Island in Fairhaven and the waters of Buzzards Bay.
He was the dear brother of David Dion, his twin with whom he resided in in Chartley, Richard J. Dion and his wife Pamela of Dighton, Lisbeth J. Perry and her husband George of Norton, Peter E. Dion and his wife Donna of Maine, Therese A. McKillop and her husband Roy of Texas, Jane C. Hapenny and her husband Glenn of Bourne and the late Marguerite “Bebe” Lincoln. Donald is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Friday, December 20th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Center Cemetery in Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 19th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Donald’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to the Independent Sportsman’s Club, P.O. Box 902, North Attleboro, MA 02761.
