CHICOPEE – Roland L. Fournier, 80, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 8, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Willimansett East in Chicopee surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1932, a beloved son of the late Rosario and Marie (Fournier) Fournier. He was raised in Holyoke and lived in the city for many years before moving to Chicopee around 1968. Prior to his retirement, Roland was employed at the Chicopee Electric Light Department. He was previously employed for many years in South Hadley and Westfield at the former Texon Corporation. Roland enjoyed many good times at the Chicopee Senior Center where he regularly played pitch with his many friends. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his cherished grandson, Gary D. Fournier who was Called Home on October 3, 1980; and his dear brother and sister, Raymond Fournier and Jeanne Amnotte. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Claire Rita (Deslauriers) Fournier. They were married on May 30, 1953 at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 60 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three devoted sons, Roland L. Fournier, Jr. and his wife, Denise, of Chicopee, Gary R. Fournier and his wife, Brenda, of North Rutland, VT, and David P. Fournier and his wife, Kim, of Chicopee; his ten cherished grandchildren; his nine cherished great-grandchildren; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Fournier and Deslauriers families. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday morning, December 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made in his memory to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
