Obituary

Claudia P. Evans, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at her residence.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M. Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at Central United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Waldorf officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 Monday evening.

Mrs. Evans was born February 20, 1918, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late John Gordon Paramoure and Cora Lee Harrell Paramoure. She was a graduate of Ocilla High School in 1936, Andrew College in Cuthbert, GA and she attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. Mrs. Evans taught school at Irwinville, Lynwood and the Sunshine Kindergarten. She served as the Deputy Tax Collector for Ben Hill County under her husband, J. Frank Evans, and as the Tax Collector and Commissioner for 16 years after his death. An active member of Central United Methodist Church, she was a member of the UMW, the Silver Foxes and the Jesse Thompson Sunday School Class. Mrs. Evans was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Red Cross Bloodmobile Volunteer.

Mrs. Evans is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Patti Evans, Marietta, GA; daughter and son-in-law: Lisa E. and Danny Young, Fitzgerald; four grandchildren: Jessica Deese, Valdosta, GA; Melanie Herrington, Statesboro, GA; Francie Barry, Marietta, GA and Elliott Evans, Marietta, GA; one brother: Waldo Paramoure, Ocilla, GA. Her husband, J. Frank Evans, and brother, Charles G. Paramoure, preceded her in death.

The family suggests those desiring to send memorials, in lieu of flowers, may send them to: Central United Methodist Church or donor’s favorite charity.
