Obituary

Francis J. ‘FJ’ Hurst III of Beaufort, NC died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013.

FJ was born on Labor Day, September 4, 1950, in Provincetown at the corner of Bradford and Franklin Streets. Son of Frank and Caffie ‘Halcyone’ (Cabral) Hurst Junior, he entered a growing, noisy Portuguese family with lots of cousins. The headquarters of the family were at Nana and Grampa’s house at 122 Commercial Street in the West End neighborhood, which was full of children. F.J. attended Provincetown schools and graduated from Provincetown High School in the Class of 1968.

After high school he traveled the country in his Volkswagen bus but eventually returned home when his dream of being a rock and roll star was fading. He went to work with his father in his father’s plumbing business, married his high school sweetheart, Maureen, and had three beloved daughters, Gretchün, Courtney and Halcyone. He was a loving and funny father.

Eventually F.J. found himself living in North Carolina, owning a bed and breakfast with his present wife, Mary. He loved the climate and life in the Carolinas.

In addition to his wife and daughters, F.J. leaves behind his sister, Halcyone Hurst Tasha, and his brother, Crayne Hurst. He also leaves behind three amazing grandchildren, Jack, Sailor and Wade Ciluzzi; his sons-in-law, Johnny Ciluzzi, Frank J. Travers and O’niel Myrie, as well as nephews, Kabraul and Hurst Tasha, and Richard and Jeremy Meads, plus many, many cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at St Peter the Apostle Church, Prince Street, Provincetown. Burial will be private.
