Obituary

James "Floyd" Lamb, Sr., 85, of Tallahassee, Florida, formerly of Tifton, died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Heritage Home Health Care in Tallahassee, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. John Hughes will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. His grandsons, Chris Garrison, Kelly McAlpin, Dr. Ryan McAlpin, Kyle Fortenberry, T.J. Fortenberry and a cousin, Tommy Williams will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Mr. Lamb was born on September 20, 1928 in Tift County and was the son of Joseph Lamb and Elizabeth Watson Lamb, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Lamb and eight brothers. He was a welder and pipe fitter and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local #630 for 60 years. He was also a Mason and a Shriner and a veteran of the United States Navy.

Mr. Lamb is survived by his companion of 14 years, Pat Miller and her family of Tallahassee, Florida; two sons, Dr. Buddy James McAlpin (James F. Lamb, Jr.) (friend, Pamela Spencer) of Orange Park, Florida and Joseph E. Lamb of Homestead, Florida; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara “Peaches” and Fred Fortenberry of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Larry Lamb of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Joseph “Butch” Lamb of Middletown, Delaware; seven sisters, Christine Lewis of Moultrie, Geneva Stringfellow of Polk City, Florida, Mitzi Edge of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jeannie Bassett of Tifton, Debbie York of Tifton, Gertrude Renew of Bradenton, Florida and Evelyn Dale of Gastonia, South Carolina; two step-children, Paula Selva and Gilbert Walker; six grandchildren, Chris Garrison and wife Dr. Jodie Calain-Garrison, Kelly McAlpin, Dr. Ryan McAlpin and wife Dr. Jessica McAlpin, Kyle Fortenberry, T. J. Fortenberry and Misty Lamb; five step-grandchildren, Claressa Waters, Malissa Herring, Adam Walker, Mary Walker and Ryan Walker; nine great-grandchildren, Alyssa McAlpin, Izzy Lamb, Lilya McAlpin, John William “Jack” Garrison, Christopher Waters Jr., Zane Herring, Amya Herring, William Walker and Julia Walker.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, P. O. Box 2585, Tampa, FL 33633 or the Forward In Faith Building Fund at Tifton’s First Baptist Church, 404 Love Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794.
