Obituary

Mrs. Frances (“Betsy”) Tippins Eden passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Born May 24, 1932 to E.L and Mary Tippins in Claxton, GA, Mrs. Eden was valedictorian of Claxton High school, attended Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the Georgia Teacher’s College (now Georgia Southern University) in Statesboro, Georgia, graduating Summa cum Laude. She met and married Daniel Robert Eden Sr., her husband of 51 years, while working as office manager for the Claxton Coca-Cola Bottling Company. After her marriage, she worked in the newspaper field with her husband, taught school in Wayne and McDuffie Counties, Georgia, and retired as a senior accountant for the Thomson Company (Salant Corporation) in 1995.
Mrs. Eden, who was a beloved long-time member of and Sunday school teacher at The Hill Baptist Church in Augusta, was a member of the First Baptist Church in Claxton for over 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldred Lanier Tippins Sr and Mary Burns Tippins of Claxton, and her brothers, Dr. Jesse G. Tippins, David Asbury Tippins, and Eldred Lanier Tippins, Jr., all of Claxton.
She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel R. (Dan) Eden Sr., of Augusta, her children and their families, E. Wynne and Iva Eden of Americus, Danny and Julie Eden, of Appling; Howard and Mary (Eden) Finch of Augusta, and Ruthie Eden Garcia of Augusta.
She was grandmother to ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom she believed “hung the moon”. “Aunt Betsy” was loved by her 14 nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Sunday, December 8th, 2013 at Platt Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at The Hill Baptist Church, Monday, December 9th at 11:00 a,m. with Reverend Ron Jones and Reverend Fred Gunter officiating.
The family will hold Interment services will be held at the Tippins Family Cemetery in Claxton, Georgia at a future date.
