Ms. Mary Jo Greene, 76, of Tifton died peacefully at home on Friday, December 6, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for funerals. Rev. Stephen Webb will officiate with a eulogy to be given by Dr. William Coleman. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Bubba Harrison, Tom Coleman, Earl Cook Ronald Cook, Allen Pratt and Lewis Pratt will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 9, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Greene was born on May 9, 1937 in Dooly County and was the daughter of Joseph Ronald Greene of Dooly County and Hazel Harvey Greene of Tifton, both deceased. She was a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church, the Newcomers Bridge Club, the Newcomers Book Club and the Trillium Garden Club. She enjoyed traveling, reading, especially World War II history, spy thrillers and literature classics. She was a graduate of Mercer University and returned with her mother to Tifton in 1993, after retirement from the United States Department of Defense, where she was a supervisor in contract management. She was a devoted caregiver to her mother for many years.
Ms. Greene is survived by Bonnye Greene of Gainesville, Florida, who was a special cousin, friend and caregiver, and by many cousins of whom she was very fond, including local cousins, JoAnn Smith, Barbara Skinner and husband Johnny, Bubba Harrison and wife Cynthia, Jackie Spradley and husband Paul, Harvey Hatcher and wife Vriginia, Jeannette Johnson and husband Joe, Jabo Brinson and the extended Wade Cook family. She enjoyed traveling with her cousins Tom Coleman, Bill Coleman and Mary Lou Pace. She is also survived by an aunt, Eleanor Harvey of Tifton.
